By definition, targeting includes leading with the crown of your helmet, even if you don't hit the opponent's head or neck area.
Unfortunately, Ohio State star (and probably Top 5 2016 NFL Draft pick) Joey Bosa found himself on the wrong end of the rule during New Year's Day's 2016 BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl.
After striking Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer in the chest with his helmet, a Tyvis Powell interception was overturned and Bosa was sent packing. Bosa had been dominant on both the inside and out of the defensive line prior to the ejection.
Next up for the Ohio State defensive end is the next level.
Ohio State fans will surely thank Bosa for an outstanding career in scarlet and gray. It's just too bad that it had to end like this.
Bosa apologized to Ohio State fans from the University of Phoenix Stadium locker room:
I'm sorry, I love you buckeye nation.
