Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets - Buckeyes offer standout Texas teammates

Just a few weeks away from National Signing Day, the Ohio State coaching staff have started expanding their search for future Buckeyes. Looking to flip some committed prospects, Ohio State has offered numerous verbally committed recruits recently. Over the weekend a 2016 Texas pledge, and his 2017 Southlake Carroll High (TX) teammate received scholarship offers from OSU.

Senior defensive back Obi Eboh, and junior safety Robert Barnes, a Oklahoma commit, both stated via their Twitter pages that Ohio State has thrown their hat in their recruitment.

Eboh, a 6'2, 190-pound, three-star prospect, committed to Texas in September. Even though he's been set for Austin for quite awhile, it hasn't kept schools from trying to poach him away from Charlie Strong and the Longhorns. Just like the Buckeyes, the Stanford Cardinal are just one of the schools wanting to find out just how firm Obi's pledge is.

Considered a four-star talent at the moment, Barnes has his fair share of attention from college coaches after finishing his junior campaign with over 100 total tackles for the 9-3 Dragons.

While it's unclear if Eboh and Barnes will make a trip to Columbus, it's good to see the Buckeyes get back to the state of Texas, a hot bed for high school football and top notch recruits.

Future Buckeyes battle in All-American game

Soon-to-be OSU punter Drue Chrisman and the West squad rolled past Austin Mack, Jonathon Cooper, Michael Jordan, Demario McCall, Jake Hausmann, and the East team in Saturday's U.S. Army All-American game on national television.

In the 37-9 blow out, the future Buckeyes showed off their different skill sets. Seeing sporadic playing time, the OSU commits might not have lit up the stat sheet during the event, but did shine in certain moments when their number was called upon.

2017 standout names top 10

On Saturday the Buckeyes might have missed out on 2016 Detroit Martin Luther King wide out Donnie Corley, who committed to Michigan State, but they learned they are still in the mix for one of Michigan's most sought after 2017 playmakers.

Long time OSU target Donovan Peoples-Jones, of Cass Tech, announced that Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and USC are the schools fighting it out for his commitment.

A five-star prospect, the 6'2, 195-pound Peoples-Jones is currently considered the top overall wide receiver, and 10th overall prospect in the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite.

• On Sunday afternoon, 2016 Akron Archbishop Hoban athlete Jonah Morris released a top four of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Michigan State, where he was formally verbally committed, The teammate of 2017 OSU commits Danny Clark and Todd Sibley, Morris has yet to receive an offer from the Buckeyes, but plans to officially visit Columbus later this month.
• Before their weekend match-up with Indiana, Thad Matta and Dave Dickerson did a little recruiting around Columbus. On Friday, Matta was in Pickerington to watch freshman Jeremiah Francis and Central take on Gahanna and future MSU big man Nick Ward, per Storied Rivals. Keeping a close eye on the future, Dickerson made the trek to Westerville to see 2017 OSU pledge Kaleb Wesson of Westerville South mix it up with rival Westerville North. In front of his soon-to-be assistant, Wesson led his squad to a 76-60 win, finishing with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks.
• Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff are looking to re-stock the Buckeyes' group of walk-on talent. Just days after receiving a commitment from Cincinnati LaSalle linebacker Hayden Jester, OSU sent out preferred walk-on offers to two instate offensive linemen over the weekend. Olentangy Liberty's Nate Brock and Conner Mundy of Strongsville both earned a chance a to suit up for the Buckeyes. The 6'4, 270-pound Brock holds offers from the likes of Morehead State and Valparaiso, while Division II programs such as Ashland, Mercyhurst, and Lake Erie College are after the 6'3, 260-pound Mundy.
