Ohio State is the 5th most valuable college basketball program
- Wall Street Journal
This may not have been the most successful college basketball season for Ohio State. In fact, the Buckeyes haven't been an elite program for a few seasons in a row now. But according to one academic, the Buckeyes are still in rarified air when it comes to their balance sheet.
Ryan Brewer, an assistant professor of finance at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus, studied the balance sheets, risk assessments and revenue projections for every college basketball program in the country, and gave them a valuation similar to what they might get in the open market if they could be bought like a professional team. Ohio State was listed as the 5th most valuable, with a $240.4 million dollar valuation. That's down from $249 million from last season, but still better than anybody else in the Big Ten.
A large arena, a favorable TV contract, corporate sponsorships and a great coach all likely contributed to Ohio State's high ranking, which probably bodes well for future program stability. Louisville was ranked first, at $301.3 million.
" [Derek] Funderburk is the only Big Ten commit taking part in the dunk contest, which also includes a couple of five-star prospects in Rawle Alkins (Arizona) and Markelle Fultz (Washington). "
- Bill Landis, cleveland.com
Keeping up with the basketball theme, 2016 Ohio State commit Derek Funderburk will compete in the American Family Insurance Slam Dunk Championship in Pearland, Texas. While the event takes place Friday, you can catch it on CBS on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Funderburk stands in at 6'9, and signed with the Buckeyes back in April 2015. The four star recruit has the dunk moves – just look at this video:
"It may not be football season, but the Ohio State video and graphic team, led by David Trichel, is at it again."
-Josh Poloha, waitingfornextyear.com
With the football season still five months away, and the spring game two weeks away, the void left by Buckeye football can be (slightly) filled by the video magic from David Trichel.
From the 'Land of Wolves' opening, antics behind the scenes, circle drills, and J.T. Barrett firing passes, the hype video reminds us that Buckeye football never stops rolling.
Here is the video that highlighted practice from March 26:
Curtis Grant Signs With Titans
- Jason Wolf, The Tennessean
Former Buckeye standout Curtis Grant has found a new landing spot for his NFL Career. The Tennessee Titans signed the undrafted linebacker from last year's class on Friday.
In Grant's last collegiant game, he faced off against Oregon's Marcus Mariota – who now is his teammate in Tennessee.
Before signing with the Titans, Grant bounced between the Chargers training camp squad, and the Falcon's practice team.
