The Big Ten is going to get very comfortable at the site of the College World Series. Conference commissioner Jim Delany announced this afternoon that the Big Ten baseball tournament will be hosted at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha from 2019 through 2022.
The 2016 and 2018 tournaments are already scheduled to be held in Omaha, meaning TD Ameritrade will be the host venue for seven out of nine years. This year's event will take place May 25-29.
"We are pleased to announce that TD Ameritrade Park will be the home of the Big Ten Baseball Tournament in 2016 and from 2018 through 2022," Delany said. "It's been a terrific venue for us with incredible fan participation and we're excited to be back."
In 2014, the conference tournament in Omaha smashed both overall and single day attendance records. For the week, over 62,000 fans took in the action, with an NCAA record 19,965 in attendance for the championship game between Indiana and Nebraska.
The Hoosiers won that game 8-4, claiming their second consecutive Big Ten tournament title. That team put five players on the all-tournament team, including Most Outstanding Player Kyle Schwarber, who until his recent injury was a budding big league star for the Chicago Cubs.
Last year's tournament was held at Target Field in Minneapolis and won by Michigan, 4-3, over Maryland.
Ohio State has won eight Big Ten tournament titles, with the most recent coming in 2007, and has appeared every year during head coach Greg Beals' tenure.
