There’s a new, but familiar face coming back to Columbus.

There’s a new member of the Ohio State Buckeyes’ basketball staff as of Monday evening. Thad Matta has hired former Charlotte head coach Alan Major as Director of Player Development, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS.

This hire should not come as a surprise if you know the history between Matta and Major. The latter spent nine years with Matta as an assistant at Xavier from 2001-04, and from 2004-10 at Ohio State. Major’s last coaching stop in Charlotte resulted in a five year tenure, with one NIT appearance for the school.

Major’s hiring also comes less than a week after a video surfaced of Thad Matta speaking about his team and the transfers that left the program after a difficult 2015-16 season.

The familiarity between both Matta and Major should make for good compatibility, and hopefully provides better results for the Buckeyes moving forward. They’ve certainly had their successes together in the past.
