With the dead period now in play it was a relatively quiet weekend for the Ohio State Buckeyes on the recruiting trail, but that will soon change.

Later this week a long list of future and potential Buckeyes will head to Oregon to participate in The Opening. A now annual event held on the grounds of the Nike headquarters, the elite camp puts top prospects against each other in a matter of different drills.

With all the hype surrounding the event, news is going to break. On Sunday the cat was let out of the bag that one of the top remaining targets on the Ohio State class of 2017 big board will announce his college leaders sometime over the next few days.

“I’m releasing a top five. I may do it as soon as I touch down (in Oregon),” said Jamyest Williams (Lawrenceville, GA / Grayson High School), a four-star cornerback, to Bleacher Report.

Racking up nearly 50 scholarship offers throughout the process, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound standout has more than his fair share of college coaches trying to bring him into the fold. Not just Ohio State, but solid college football programs such as Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee have gave Williams, who last visited OSU in May, a chance to suit up for their squad.

“I’m looking for a place that will prepare me and get me to work at my best potential,” Williams added.

Who will make the cut for the four-star defensive back? You won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

Eskridge names top 10

Ohio State is yet to lock up its first 2018 pledge, but find themselves in the thick of things with many of the most sought after prospects the class has to offer.

To kick the Independence Day weekend off, four-star athlete Jermaine Eskridge (Tampa, FL / Jefferson) let the world know on Friday afternoon that he currently has 10 programs sticking out among the over 40 schools that have offered him a scholarship to date.

Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Michigan State and USC are one step closer to landing the 6-foot-3, 185-pound former University of Kentucky commit.

Eskridge hasn’t seen the field very much after most of his sophomore season at Jefferson High due to a eligibility issue after transferring schools, but is still ranked among the top 150 recruits for 2018. Per the 247Sports Composite, Jermaine is at the moment looked as the seventh athlete, and 131st overall prospect in the junior class.
