Decision date set for Williams

As of today, Ohio State’s top ranked 2017 recruiting class features three prospects at the cornerback spot. The Buckeyes already have secured verbal pledges from Amir Riep, Shaun Wade, and Marcus Williamson but that hasn’t took them out of the mix for yet another top flight player at the position.

2017 cornerback Jamyest Williams (Loganville, GA / Grayson), the eighth best CB in the class, released his group of top schools on his Twitter account and, sure enough, Ohio State was one of the five that were included.

As you can see, the other schools that the Buckeyes will be battling for the 5-foot-9, 170-pounder include Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Williams, the nations 57th best prospect, also revealed the date in which he will be making his selection — August 27th.

Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball currently favors the Gamecocks to land the four-star defensive back.

Unfortunately for Ohio State, they have yet to rack up one single prediction for Williams. With that being said, unless Head Coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes pull off something miraculous in the next two weeks, it’s a safe bet that the Loganville native will not be playing his collegiate ball in Columbus, Ohio.

Wade planning officials

Above we discussed how ‘17 CB Shaun Wade was a member of this years Ohio State recruiting class. That hasn’t stopped the five-star prospect from looking at all of his options.

Wade has taken plenty of visits, despite his pledge to the Buckeyes. Now the 6-foot-1, 177-pounder is beginning to think about official visits. According to 247Sports’ Bill Kurelic, Wade will definitely be taking officials to three schools — Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Kurelic says Wade will be in Columbus on Oct. 8 when the Buckeyes take on Indiana. A visit to Michigan will likely come the week before when the Wolverines take on Wisconsin. Wade’s father, Randy, also told Kurelic that his son would be at Notre Dame on Sept. 17.

Bucks give preferred walk-on offer

On Wednesday, Ohio State dished out a preferred walk-on offer to in-state prospect and 2017 running back Alonzo Booth of DeSales (OH), according to the schools Twitter account. Booth does hold a few full ride offers under his belt for the time being. The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder has secured scholarship opportunities from Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, and Navy.

As one could imagine, it would be tough to turn down the opportunity to play college football for free. However, for all we know, maybe Booth would rather walk-on and spend his college at a program like Ohio State. Booth is a Columbus kid, so an outcome like that wouldn’t come as a surprise but that is something that will be determined at a later date but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on.

Booth is currently preparing for his senior season at DeSales High School. The running back will look to put together a more impressive campaign than last season when he tallied 915 yards and reached the endzone 12 times for the Stallions.
