In a sport that has a history of producing crazy stories, Tennessee’s hire —and the subsequent backlash that reversed it— of Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Greg Schiano is near the top.
On Sunday, word began to leak out that the Volunteers hired Schiano to be their next head coach, and Vols fans —which included former players, and elected officials— exploded in protest, pointing to Schiano’s alleged role in the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State as the main reason for not wanting the former Rutgers Head Coach.
But is that really what this is about?
To break it down, Matt Brown and I recorded an emergency Hangout in the Holy Land and gave our thoughts on the situation; why shouting, “BUT PENN STATE!” is a convenient excuse for Vols fans upset at not getting the splash hire they wanted, and what Schiano’s coaching future holds.
