Today, the Ohio State University Football team announced that Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz and Nike founder and Chairman Emeritus Phil Knight would be the guest coaches for April’s spring game.

The connections between Ohio State and the two guests run deep. Not only was Holtz an OSU assistant in the legendary 1968 National Championship season under Woody Hayes, but current head coach, Urban Meyer, was hired by Holtz in 1998 to be Notre Dame’s wide-receivers coach.

On the other side of the field, the Buckeyes and Nike have had a partnership for more than 20 years, and their most recent agreement continues the relationship into 2033. In addition to providing the athletic teams with apparel and equipment, the new deal also extends to products and scholarships for non-athletes as well.

The fact that the two guest coaches will be an 80 year old who hasn’t coached in over a decade, and a guy who is not a coach, should probably tell us a little bit about how intense the spring game is going to be this season. Which is fine!

The 2017 Ohio State spring game will take place at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, April 15th at 12:30pm.
