Rising OT can’t get enough of Ohio State

One of the top offensive linemen in the 2019 recruiting class was on Ohio State’s campus Monday (and he already wants to come back).

One of the key reasons Urban Meyer has vaulted himself into elite status when it comes to recruiting is his ability to recognize talent early. Meyer and the Ohio State football staff is hoping to be at it again with 2019 offensive tackle Michael Tarquin (Belleview, FL / Belleview).

The Buckeyes hosted Tarquin Monday and it appears the visit couldn’t have gone better. To this point, Tarquin has been projected to stay at home and continue his football career playing for the Miami Hurricanes. However, after today’s visit, the four-star junior may have found a home away from home in Columbus, Ohio.

Tarquin took to Twitter following the visit and said he had a “fantastic” time on campus. However, the blue-chip OT didn’t stop there, as he said that he wanted to make a return visit to the University.

Tarquin is a rising OT and therefore, the Buckeyes will have their hands full in winning him over. Despite just two years of high school football under his belt, he has acquired 15 scholarship offers from schools like Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Arizona State, Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville, Auburn and Tennessee.

While Miami is still leading the pack in Tarquin’s recruitment, Meyer and the Buckeyes became legitimate contenders for his services following the visit. If the program is able to get him back on campus, they could easily jump into the driver’s seat for his recruitment.

Ohio State set to host multiple elite recruits today

On top of hosting an important recruit yesterday, the Ohio State coaching staff is attacking the recruiting world at full force this week. The program is holding a one-day camp today and some of the country’s top recruits will be in attendance.

While there is no official visitor list, more than a dozen recruits are reportedly planning on making the trek to Columbus today. Jeremy Birmingham of Landof10.com currently has a running list of recruits reportedly attending the camp, including some big names from the 2018, 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes.

The biggest name on his list is 2018 four-star linebacker K'Vaughan Pope (Dinwiddie, VA / Dinwiddie County). Pope has been connected to the Ohio State program for the majority of his recruitment and is the favorite to land him with 75-percent of the 247CrystalBall predictions.

Pope is one of the top interior linebackers in the country and was on Ohio State’s campus back in April. Following this visit, the Buckeyes gained even more steam in Pope’s recruitment. So much so, that there is a real possibility that he could be on commitment watch today if his time at the camp goes well.

Also, on the list of visitors attending today’s camp are some of the best from the 2019 recruiting class:

  • Rising outside linebacker target Kyi Wright (Farrell, PA / Farrell)
  • Ohio native OLB target Dezman Cooper (Reynoldsburg, OH / Reynoldsburg)
  • Elite Ohio native wide receiver Mershawn Rice (Reynoldsburg, OH / Reynoldsburg)

Make sure to follow Land-Grant Holy Land throughout the day as we follow today’s camp.
