If a recent report is correct, Ohio State fans won’t have to do any speculating this offseason. The Buckeyes will have a new basketball coach after the 2017-2018 campaign.

According to Bucknuts, multiple sources have said that Thad Matta is expected to retire after the 2017-2018 basketball season. The Buckeyes have scheduled a press conference at 2 PM ET with Matta and Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.

Ohio State has hit a rough patch over the last few seasons, missing the NCAA Tournament two years in a row, and last year, missing the NIT after an embarrassing first round loss in the Big Ten Tournament to Rutgers.

Matta has an outstanding 439-154 overall coaching record at Butler, Xavier and Ohio State, where he has coached since 2004. No matter what happens this season, he’ll leave Ohio State as one of the best, if not the best, coach in Buckeye history. Hopefully the next coach of the program can build off what Matta started.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
