One name near the top of virtually every list of possible coaches to take over the Ohio State men’s basketball program is Xavier’s Chris Mack.
It makes a ton of sense. The Buckeyes hired out of Xavier before, and it worked out just fine. Mack has as ton of success recruiting and developing talent in Ohio and across the Midwest. Also, Ohio State is a bump up in resources and prestige.
Plus, his house is mysteriously for sale already. Coincidence?!?
Well...yeah. It’s a coincidence.
Mack took to Twitter earlier today to clear the air:
My timing for this house sale, well . But we are moving to NKY. Love Xavier! Now, about that house we have to sell... any takers?— Chris Mack (@CoachChrisMack) June 7, 2017
Folks, I’m getting older and less hip, but that sure looks like a pretty clear subtweet of Ohio State to me.
But we’re not just trying to parse meaning out of a single tweet that doesn’t mention Ohio State by name. At least one national reporter threw cold water on the idea that Mack, or either Miller brother, would be heading to Columbus.
Going forward it sounds like Chris Mack, Archie Miller, and Sean Miller can be removed from any Ohio St coaching speculation— Brian Snow (@BSnowScout) June 6, 2017
The president of the University of Arizona had some, uh, pretty colorful language to describe what he thought about Ohio State potentially hiring Sean away from the Wildcats.
We know Ohio State assistant Chris Jent is a candidate. We can guess who some of the others are. My guess? We’ll know how this all plays out pretty soon.
