The Opening Finals is one of the premier college football recruiting events each year, and future Ohio State Buckeyes are oftentimes the center of attention. This past weekend was no different. Eight Ohio State commits were present in Beaverton, Ore. as over 160 of the nation’s best recruits took to the field to showcase their skills in the highly competitive environment.
On this edition of The Hangout in the Holyland, Colton Denning and Patrick Mayhorn discuss why they think the event does a good job identifying prospects (3:08), what impressed them most from the Ohio State group —including the standout performances by all-purpose back Jaelen Gill and defensive tackle Taron Vincent— (7:46), uncommitted prospects at the event on Ohio State’s radar (13:37), and where the Buckeyes’ class stands two weeks before the annual Friday Night Lights showcase in Columbus.
They also discuss SB Nation’s All-Opening team (16:10), if the 2018 class is starting to have a noticeable theme (17:52), and Patrick’s predictions for the rest of the recruiting cycle (20:45).
