As is, the Ohio State Buckeyes have a stacked recruiting class for 2018—and it may get even better on Friday if Tyler Friday commits to the program. But like any program on the lookout for future talent, it’s never too early to send out offers.
A Star in the Lone Star State
On Wednesday, the Buckeyes took a step in the right direction in securing one of the top athletes in the 2019 class. Four-star wide receiver/cornerback Marquez Beason (Dallas / Bishop Dunne) is that athlete, and he’s one of the top talents out of Texas for next year’s recruiting class.
He made the Scarlet and Gray offer known via Twitter.

Beason is considered the 83rd best prospect in his class, as well as the sixth best athlete and 10th best player in Texas, according to the 247sports composite.
Since the start of 2018, four schools have made offers to the Dallas standout. Louisiana Tech, Oregon, Washington State and OSU are those schools, and they join over 30 programs who have made it known that they want Beason.
As things stand, the 247sports crystal ball sees the two Red River Rivalry schools as the frontrunners for the elite prospect. While only five total predictions have been made, four of them point to the Texas Longhorns being the early leader for Beason; the Oklahoma Sooners received one vote—with that vote coming back in November 2017.
There is still plenty of time left for Ohio State to gain ground in the recruitment of Beason. If anything happens, we’ll keep you posted.
Walk-on offer and visit
Beason wasn’t the only one that got noticed by the Buckeyes. One recruit got an offer from OSU, while another one took a visit.
Lloyd McFarquhar (South Euclid, OH / Charles F. Brush High School) is a 2018 prospect that received a preferred walk-on spot at Ohio State. Like Beason, McFarquhar used Twitter to celebrate the news.

While McFarquhar just received his offer, another recruit with a preferred walk-on offer took a visit to OSU. Three-star 2018 wide receiver Xavier Johnson (Cincinnati, OH / Summit Country Day School) took a picture, and tweeted out that he was on a visit.

Back on Jan. 12, Johnson received his preferred walk-on offer. Already, he holds eight offers, with Cincinnati being one of the schools. Within a week, he went from getting an offer to taking a visit to Ohio State; that seems to bode well for the Buckeyes if they are looking for another receiver to add into the fold.
