Another edition of “Separation Saturday” saw four AP Top 10 teams fall. The Ohio State Buckeyes were not one of them, and because of that, they moved up to No. 2 in the latest edition of the AP Poll Top 25.
It wasn’t an easy victory for Urban Meyer’s squad against Minnesota, but three forced turnovers propelled the Buckeyes to their seventh victory of the season— and more importantly, keeps them as the lone unbeaten team in the Big Ten Conference.
Ohio State’s slide upward was thanks in large part to LSU, who’s quarterbacked by OSU graduate transfer Joe Burrow. The Tigers defeated then-No. 2 Georgia, 36-16, in Baton Rouge. Georgia’s loss bounces them slightly downward to No. 8, while LSU, moved up to No. 5.
Alabama is still the top team in the country after rolling past Missouri, 39-10. Clemson had an off-date, and maintained position at No. 3. Notre Dame’s win against Pittsburgh moved them up to No. 4.
There was big movement in the Big Ten after Saturday. Penn State’s last minute meltdown to Michigan State drops them all the way from No. 8 to No. 18. Michigan’s eye-opening wallop of Wisconsin propels the Wolverines to No. 6, a six-spot climb from last week. Wisconsin, now with two losses, is now at No. 23.
