We learned early on Tuesday morning that Urban Meyer will be retiring from Ohio State football following the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. The program will be left in extremely competent hands with Ryan Day tapped as the next head coach and several Meyer staffers reportedly being retained.
Here’s how some former and current Buckeyes publicly reacted to the news:
Current Buckeyes:
I love @OSUCoachMeyer and I truly appreciate everything he has done for me and my family. Let’s go out the right way and win that Rose Bowl!! https://t.co/yRLVGNsY2s

Coach Day... Let’s do this!
Future Buckeyes:
And, he’s not a Buckeye just yet, but Ohio State commit Garrett Wilson has (once again) re-affirmed his commitment to playing in Columbus — along with some other future Buckeyes.
I am 1000% committed to Ohio State University. Much love @OSUCoachMeyer

Former Buckeyes:
Meyer coached in Columbus for seven seasons, and along the way had a huge impact on his players during that time — especially the guys he led to a College Football Playoff win at the end of the 2014 season.
Breaking News: Urban Meyer is retiring. Considering moving on to work with the Saints. Which is perfect . Love you coach @OSUCoachMeyer I shed a tear everytime thinking about the impact you had on my life and many other individuals. You provided tools for success. #GoBucks

I remember my Frosh year, Coach Meyer said "Ya know, maybe Akron is better for you."
— Darron Lee (@DLeeMG8) December 4, 2018
I replied: " Even you don't believe that"
Him: "Then show me why I don't believe it Darron" (cont)

"Still think I belong at Akron?"
Him: "I'm so proud of you, you're everything I knew you'd become"
I almost cried right there. We took down Bama and I'm not sure he knew what that meant to me being from the South. Thank you @OSUCoachMeyer !
Your coach once told you during recruiting you will play for a national championship. Then you do 2-5 years there maybe even 6 and you don’t have a ring to show for it. I can’t relate @OSUCoachMeyer . Every team he coached had a chance even on probation. #GoBucks
