Hours before the Ohio State Buckeyes were set to take on the Illinois FIghting Illini on the hardwood, an announcement came out that redshirt senior guard Kam Williams was suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

The suspension is a blow to the Buckeyes’ on-court production and leadership. Williams is averaging 8.0 points per game, and tied a career-high in rebounds (6) against Indiana—Ohio State’s last opponent. Looking into the near future, Williams needs 28 more points to become the latest member of the 1,000-point club at OSU.

Amongst the team, Williams is the most senior of members when it comes to getting into the game. He’s played in 126 games, starting in 47 of them.

On the season, Ohio State is 19-5 (10-1), and takes on the Illini at the Value City Arena at noon. After Illinois, the Buckeyes are in a primetime showdown with No. 3 Purdue on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
