Now that Day 1 is behind us, we can get ready for a busy, Buckeye-filled night with Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2018 NFL Draft on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. ET. During the first round, Denzel Ward was picked No. 4 overall to the Cleveland Browns, and Billy Price was taken at No. 21 by the Cincinnati Bengals. But that leaves more than a dozen draft-eligible Ohio State players still waiting to hear their names called — including QB J.T. Barrett.
Granted, of the 18 Buckeyes that participated in the school’s pro day back in March, only 11 had also received invitations to the NFL Combine, but that still leaves at least a handful of Ohio State draft picks expected before the weekend is over. This year’s draft class could come close to the history-making 2016 class, except with a few less first-round picks.
Sam Hubbard was considered on the bubble as a late first-round draft pick throughout the draft process, but since he didn’t hear his name last night, there’s a good chance he’s the first Buckeye off the board in Round 2.
Other Buckeyes who have been mocked to the second and third rounds of the draft, include DE Jalyn Holmes, DL Tyquan Lewis, LB Jerome Baker, and OT Jamarco Jones. Baker had a great performance at the combine, but Jones finished pretty middle of the pack among his position group. Lewis wound up missing some of the event due to the flu, but ended up having a good showing at pro day to help boost his stock.
Even if some of these names don’t end up getting called on Friday night, there’s still a long day on Saturday with the final four rounds — leaving plenty of time to add more Ohio State alumni to the NFL ranks.
