3 Ohio State alumni competing for “Big X” in 2018 The Basketball Tournament

The team has until June 1st to secure a spot in the tournament.

NCAA Basketball: Illinois at Ohio State Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

So, last year, a whole bunch of Ohio State alumni got together to compete in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) in honor of former Buckeye head coach, Thad Matta. The roster included OSU legends, like Aaron Craft, Jared Sullinger, William Buford and Jon Diebler.

However, for the 2018 tournament, there isn’t going to be a straight-up Ohio State-team, but there is a Big Ten team featuring a few Buckeyes... and a few Wolverines. Still trying to accrue enough fan votes before the June 1st deadline, the “Big X” team will feature Buckeyes Andrew Dakich, Jae’Sean Tate and Kam Williams.

With the success of Chris Holtmann’s squad in just his first year as the Buckeye head coach, it’ll be fun to watch the trio of Ohio State alums sharing a court one more time. The team currently sits in 13th place, but only the top nine teams get a tournament spot, so GO VOTE and help them out.

The Basketball Tournament teams and bracket will be announced June 6, with games getting underway in July. With $2 million on the line, the single elimination tourney stays competitive til the final shot — hopefully this year, some Buckeyes will actually walk away with a portion of the purse.

Also on the Big X team will be Michigan’s Mark Donnal, Duncan Robinson, Stu Douglass, and Jon Horford, as well as Illinois’ Nnanna Egwu.
