So, Saturday was fun, huh? It kicked off with the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes throwing up Double-7s against Oregon State (yes, they also gave up way too many points, but don’t harsh my excitement). Then—from a Big Ten perspective—it ended with the No. 14 Michigan Wolverines coming up short against No. 12 Notre Dame, 24-17.
Throw in narrow escapes by No. 10 Penn State (45-38 over Appalachian State in overtime) earlier in the day and No. 11 Michigan State (38-31 over Utah State) on Friday night, and things kept getting even more fun for the Buckeye faithful.
With Nebraska’s game against Akron cancelled due to inclement—after originally being announced as rescheduled for today—the first week of the college football season is now in the books for the B1G. But, that doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop until Week 2!
This was an errant report from FS1, the game has now been totally cancelled. Nebraska will open season against Colorado next weekend.

No, because thanks to the wonder of Labor Day weekend, we still have two more ranked-vs.-ranked games of college football action before we officially turn the calendar on Week 1. First, tonight, all of Buckeye Nation’s favorite SEC quarterback, Joe Burrow, will get his first collegiate start as he leads the No. 25 LSU Tigers against the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes at Jerry’s World in Arlington, Texas.
Then on Monday, we wrap up the holiday weekend with an ACC battle as No. 20 Virginia Tech visits Doak Campbell Stadium to take on the No. 19 Florida State Seminoles. After missing nearly all of 2017 after suffering a patellar tendon injury in the season opener, FSU QB Deondre Francois is back and hoping to be better than ever. Should the junior improve upon his 2016 redshirt freshman productivity levels, he very well could be in the mix for the Heisman Trophy at season’s end.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend, everybody, and remember, the Jeaux Burreaux jokes were only funny on Twitter for the first 23 minutes after his transfer was announced, don’t be that guy tonight.
