Lee Corso makes his pick for Ohio State vs. Penn State on ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’

Brutus Buckeye or the Nittany Lion?

On Saturday morning, ESPN’s “College GameDay” was in University Park, Pa. ahead of the massive Big Ten matchup between the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions and the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes. With all due respect to Buckeye alum Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, David Pollack, and Maria Taylor (no respect due to that other guy on the show), the highlight of any “GameDay” broadcast is Lee Corso’s headgear pick at the end of the show.

The former Indiana coach has been donning helmets, mascots heads, and other a sundry costumes for 22 years in order to make his final pick for the biggest game of the weekend. In that time, the Sunshine Scooter has picked 39 Ohio State games— including at TCU earlier this season— and he has a 24-15 record in those games. Corso has put on the Brutus head 27 times, and in those games, the Buckeyes have gone 19-8.

Well, let’s hope that Corso’s 40th pick of an Ohio State game leads to a loss, because just minutes ago, LC picked the home Lions to upset the Buckeyes. He first pulled out a lion head, and then Herbstreit almost talked him out of turning against his first true love of Brutus. But, after discarding the original lion head, he pulled out a second to make the pick official.

In addition to Corso, Pollack picked OSU, Desmond Howard picked PSU, and the week’s guest-picker; Penn State alum— and James Franklin doppelganger— Keegan-Michael Key; of course, picked the Lions.

Herbstreit will be calling the game, so he did not make an official pick, but we can assume his heart is with the Buckeyes. However, his son Chase picked the Buckeyes.

Ohio State and Penn State will kick off tonight on ABC at 7:30 p.m. ET. Land-Grant Holy Land will have you covered with the pre and postgame news. You can also follow us on Twitter @LandGrant33.
