As new head coach Ryan Day continues to assemble his staff, it looks like he will be adding at least one new member to the defensive side of the ball as co-defensive coordinator Alex Grinch is reportedly heading to Norman, Okla. to join Lincoln Riley’s staff at the University of Oklahoma according to FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman.
BREAKING: #OhioState’s Alex Grinch is expected to become the next defensive coordinator at #OU, per source. He was a semifinalist for the 2017 Broyles Award. Grinch worked wonders at WAZZU turning a defense ranked outside the top 100 into one ranked No. 34 by the time he left WSU

Grinch, a Grove City native, joined the Buckeyes in January 2018 following three seasons at Washington State. He also spent time at Missouri, Wyoming, and New Hampshire (but after Ryan Day had left).
In addition to being a co-defensive coordinator with Greg Schiano this past season, Grinch oversaw the Buckeye safeties. However, with the change at the top of the program, it appears that Grinch will move on. Nothing has been confirmed about Schiano’s status with the Buckeyes in 2019, but unsubstantiated rumors have been rampant about defensive coaches that could be joining Day’s staff in the very near future.
