With the bye week behind them, the Ohio State Buckeyes football team now has a short week to prepare for Big Ten foe Northwestern. While the Buckeyes have jumped out as early favorites, do not be mistaken, the game will be tough as the atmosphere in Chicago Friday night is sure to be wild. Also, Northwestern is a good team with a good head coach in Pat Fitzgerald.

That being said, Ohio State’s football program has a week of rest under their belts as well as an extra week to prepare. But the bye week wasn’t quiet for the Buckeyes as the coaching staff still found a way to walk away winners.

Ohio State was able to secure a commitment Sunday afternoon when four-star cornerback Ryan Watts (Little Elm, TX / Little Elm) announced he would be heading to Columbus to play college ball, solidifying an impressive CB haul in the 2020 recruiting class.

But Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff are not finished there as they work to ensure the future is just as bright as the present. The team is hoping to receive good news soon as one of their top targets in the 2021 recruiting class looks to soon be narrowing down his list of suitors.

Five-star athlete target Emeka Egbuka (Steilacoom, WA / Steilacoom) is reportedly going to be announcing his top ten school soon, according heirsports.com.

The news seems to be true as Egbuka took to Twitter on Sunday looking for help making an edit.

The news will shed a lot of light on Egbuka’s recruitment as not much is known right now. Ohio State and Washington both have been highlighted as favorites to land him in the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, but the only other selection on their is “undecided.” He has also already taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Michigan, UCLA, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Earning a spot in his top ten would be a big step in the right direction for the Buckeyes. Egbuka is one of the top prospects in the entire country, the 247Sports Composite Rankings have him listed as the No. 1 ATH in next year’s class and the No. 9 overall recruit despite position.

Update on Ohio State’s QB situation

In Monday’s presser with head coach Ryan Day, the leader of Ohio State’s football team spoke on his desire to have four quarterbacks under scholarship if possible. While noting he understands that will not always be possible with the transfer portal gaining new members seemingly every week.

Day notes that the ideal quarterback room is to have four players at a time, but they’ve come to grips with the fact that because of the transfer portal that’s not always possible. He said that because of the way that his staff coaches QBs, it is likely that backups will expect to be starters elsewhere.

With that being said, this is the perfect time to look at Ohio State’s future at the position and evaluate what is next to come. The Buckeyes have been able to lock up commitments from 2020 four-star QB Jack Miller (Scottsdale, AZ / Chaparral) and 2021 four-star QB Kyle McCord Philadelphia, PA / St. Joseph’s). But the team isn’t finished with this year’s class.

It seems like as every week passes, the Buckeyes position with four-star QB CJ Stroud (Rancho Cucamonga, CA / Rancho Cucamonga) continues to improve. The talk surrounding the two has been heating up for some time and just last week Ohio State officially presented him with a scholarship offer.

While nothing is certain in college football recruiting, Stroud is looking like a lock to Ohio State. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have him favored to the Buckeyes with 100 percent of the votes. On top of this, the Buckeyes were assumed to be in the mix for Jayden de Laura (Honolulu, HI / St. Louis) but with his recent commitment to Washington State, Stroud is now the No. 1 guy to join Miller in this year’s class.
