Odds released for teams to make, miss College Football Playoff

The Buckeyes are the third longest shot to miss out on the CFP.

As leaves turn colors and temperatures drop across the country (or at least in the parts that experience all four season), things are beginning to get interesting in the world of college football. As conference slates heat up and good teams finally play more good teams, the national title contenders are beginning to separate themselves from the pack.

Currently — depending on the sportsbook — the Ohio State Buckeyes either have the third or fourth best betting odds to win the national. Well, on Wednesday, BetOnline.ag released odds for all of the teams on the board to not only make this season’s College Football Playoff, but also to miss them as well.

As would be expected based on their odds to win it all, OSU is one of five teams that are better than even money to make the sport’s final four tournament. Clemson leads the way at -300, followed by Alabama at -240, and Oklahoma at -170. The Buckeyes currently sit at -160, with the LSU Tigers at -150.

I would suspect that the Buckeyes’ odds would increase should they clear the hurdle of playing the Wisconsin Badgers this weekend, who sits at +1000. The Penn State Nittany Lions (+450) and Minnesota Golden Gophers (+1600) are the other Big Ten teams on the board.

Additionally, the oddsmakers have OSU tied with Oklahoma for the third longest odds to miss the CFP. Clemson (+250) and Alabama (+200) have the longest odds. LSU is in fifth at +130.
