Baron Browning, Jonathon Cooper, Austin Mack, Chase Young out against Rutgers

Spoiler Alert: It won’t matter.

The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes are a 53.5-point favorite in Saturday’s game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. So, you would forgive Ryan Day and his staff for holding out any player who might have even as much of a stubbed toe for the week.

Fourteen Buckeyes will not suit up for the game against Rutgers as OSU prepares for the stretch run of a season that seems singularly focused on the College Football Playoffs. As we all know by now, the best player in the country Chase Young will miss his second game in a row following allegations that he committed the indefensible crime of borrowing some money from a friend to pay for his girlfriend to go to this past January’s Rose Bowl (the horror!).

However, as we learned earlier this week, after his mini-vacay, Young will be back for the remaining regular and postseason games starting on Nov. 23 against the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions.

The other players that will miss this week’s contest against Rutgers are offensive lineman Joshua Alabi, wide receiver Kamryn Babb, linebacker Baron Browning, defensive end Jonathon Cooper, defensive tackle Noah Donald, wide receiver Elijah Gardiner, safety Ronnie Hickman, offensive lineman Matthew Jones, wide receiver Austin Mack, offensive lineman Brett Novick, H-back C.J. Saunders, and defensive tackle Taron Vincent.

With both starting defensive ends out again this week, red-shirt freshman Javontae Jean-Baptiste or true-freshman Zach Harrison will start in Young’s spot, while Tyler Friday or Tyreke Smith will start in Jonathon Coopers stead.
