Just like that, the 2019 college football regular season is over. There are sure to be mixed feelings of relief, sadness and excitement for what is still to come around Buckeye Nation. However, over the next three weeks, we will have to find a way to get our Ohio State football fix somehow.
Luckily, recruiting never stops at OSU, and the early signing period for this year’s class starts in less than two weeks. So thankfully, those like myself with an unhealthy obsession for Buckeye football can hopefully find some solace in this.
Monday had no shortage of news, as future Buckeyes continued to make headlines.
Ohio State commit listed as top 10 recruit in the updated 2021 Rivals rankings
This time last week, we highlighted a couple Buckeyes in the 2020 recruiting class that were listed among the updated Rivals top 10 recruiting rankings. This week, Rivals is revealing their updated rankings for the 2021 recruiting class. On Monday, the site revealed its top 10 prospects and as is quickly becoming the norm, a future Buckeye made the cut.
Five-star defensive end commit Jack Sawyer (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington North) made the list, coming in at No. 7.

Sawyer looks to continue a long line of elite defensive end prospects to commit to Ohio State in hopes of making it to the NFL. There is no question that he has the skillset and athleticism to continue the trend, which is why he is universally recognized as one of the top prospects in next year’s class.
In the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Sawyer comes in as the No. 2 strong-side DE in the nation, and is also the No. 2 overall prospect in the class.
The junior is coming off an impressive season of play and will continue to see his name near the top of all national recruiting databases. The Buckeyes are looking to get something special out of this homegrown talent.
Ohio State offers 2022 OT
With three weeks until the Buckeyes kick off against Clemson in the College Football Playoffs, expect to see Ohio State dish out plenty of offers — especially with this year’s class wrapping up.
Right on cue, the Buckeyes recently offered 2022 offensive tackle Joe Brunner (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay).
I’m honored to have received an offer from The Ohio State University, Thank you coach @CoachGMattison pic.twitter.com/aDDCAMzLjK
— Joe Brunner (@brunnerjoe_) December 10, 2019
While Brunner has yet to be ranked or given a star ranking by the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he is viewed as a four-star prospect in 247Sports 2022 rankings and is the No. 1 OT and No. 58 overall.
The Buckeyes will have some obvious stiff competition for Brunner’s pledge, as it is difficult to steal offensive linemen out of Wisconsin. The Badgers, as expected, are currently the favorite to land his commitment.
That being said, the Buckeyes are far from out of it. The program will need to get him on campus multiple times over the coming seasons if they are to stand a chance, but if they do, Ohio State could immediately jump up as a contender for Brunner’s services.
