Early Signing Period: All of the official members of Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The air is chilled, lights are hung, gifts are about to be given, what more could you possibly want from a holiday? So, after months of planning and weeks of increasing anticipation, happy first day of the NCAA’s Division I Football Early Signing Period, friends!

Though the departure of co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach Jeff Hafley has thrown a bit of a wrench into some of the Ohio State Buckeyes’ plans for the next three days, for the most part, things have gone about as well as could be anticipated for the first true Ryan Day recruiting class.

Coming into the day, the Buckeyes have the fourth-rated class nationally, and could theoretically move up to third at around 12:30 p.m. ET with the commitment of the second quarterback in their class, but more on that in a minute.

We will update this article as the National Letters of Intent are officially confirmed by Ohio State. As Gene Ross wrote in this morning’s State Secrets column linked above, there aren’t many surprises expected today, but there is one announcement that the Buckeyes will be watching.

Because of the transfers of Tathan Martell and Matthew Baldwin, and flip of D’wan Mathis to Florida State, the OSU quarterback room is not as deep and talented as Day and his staff would like. So, the plan has been to sign two QBs in the 2020 class, in hopes of stabilizing the position behind Justin Fields next season and providing a base moving forward.

Four-star Arizona quarterback Jack Miller, the No. 290 player in the country (thanks primarily to recurring injuries), has been committed to the Buckeyes since July of 2018, but today, OSU will hope to add the No. 2 prostyle quarterback, and No. 83 player overall, CJ Stroud. He will commit in a ceremony at his high school in Rancho Cucamonga, Cali. at 9:30 a.m. PT. More on that this afternoon.
