A pair of Ohio State commits crack the top 10 in Rivals’ updated rankings

Two Ohio State recruits were highly-rated in the latest recruiting shuffle

Ohio State’s football program is coming off its most important win of the season. The weekend victory in the state up north officially cements an undefeated regular season in both Ryan Day and Justin Fields first seasons with the Buckeyes. The win was also the eighth in a row against Michigan — a record for OSU in the history of the series.

While it was an away game, there were plenty of recruits taking in the game on the sidelines as well as viewing it on TV.

The team will now shift focus to taking on Wisconsin for a second time this year when the two teams meet in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game. However, that doesn’t mean the team will forget about recruiting.

Ohio State commits make Rivals new Top 10

Rivals.com released its updated top 10 rankings for the 2020 recruiting class on Monday, and there were multiple Ohio State commits that made the list.

Included in the list are both five-star OT Paris Johnson Jr. (Cincinnati, OH / Princeton) and five-star WR Julian Fleming (Catawissa, PA / Southern Columbia).

Johnson comes in at No. 6 and is the highest-rated offensive lineman in the entire 2020 class. He has been committed to the Buckeyes since June of 2018, and Johnson marks one of coach Day’s biggest recruiting wins in the class.

Following the departure of former head coach Urban Meyer, Johnson’s recruitment immediately became more fluid. Day, Kerry Combs and Greg Strudrawa all played pivotal parts in securing his commitment, but it was his relationship with Day that proved to be the final factor in keeping him in the class.

While he is now ranked No. 6 overall in the Rivals rankings, he is still No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. However, with multiple recruiting databases set to release their final rankings of the class soon, that number could rise.

Fleming, the second Buckeye in Rivals Top Ten, came in immediately ahead of Johnson at No. 5.

Also No. 1 at his position in the updated rankings, Fleming has been regarded as one of the top recruits in the country for the majority of his recruitment. Last week, Land-Grant Holy Land broke down Ohio State’s WR haul for the 2020 class and how dominant of a group it is, led by Fleming.

As Rivals reveals the rest of their rankings this week, look for fellow WR commits Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Gee Scott Jr. to be high on the list as well.
