On Friday, it was announced that Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball assistant coach Mike Schrage would be leaving Columbus to take over as the head coach of Elon University. Schrage served as an assistant under Chris Holtmann for a season at Butler before joining him at Ohio State in the summer of 2017.
A new era starts today.

Before becoming a part of Holtmann’s staff, Schrage coached for eight seasons at Stanford under Johnny Dawkins, and as a part of Mike Krzyzweski’s staff at Duke from 1999-2008. Schrage got his coaching start as a student manager and then administrative assistant at Indiana University under Bobby Knight and Rod Barnes.
Schrage has been a key recruiter for Holtmann’s Buckeyes, leading the charge for point guard DJ Carton, the No. 28 player in the 2019 recruiting class, who will be joining the Buckeyes in the fall.
Congratulations to Coach Schrage and to Elon. We wish them luck... except for if they take on the Buckeyes.
