On Friday night, Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes football team received one of the biggest commitments in program history as Catawissa, Pa. wide receiver Julian Fleming announced that he would be playing his college football in Columbus come fall 2020.
The five-star wide receiver is not only the top-rated player from the Keystone State, but also the top WR in his class, and the sixth highest rated player at any position in the country. According to 247Sports’ Composite ranking, Fleming is the 146th best recruit since they started their tracking system in 2000. That puts him behind only former Buckeyes Terrelle Pryor Sr. and Ted Ginn Jr.
The 6-foot-2, 199 pound playmaker also held offers from his home-state Nittany Lions, as well as Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, and dozens of other schools.
With Fleming hailing from about an hour and a half from State College, Pa., he has long been considered “Pennsylvania’s best receiver in a long time.” He has reportedly recorded a 4.4-second time in the 40-yard dash, and will bring another dimension of physicality, technique, and skill to Brian Hartline’s receiver room.
Fleming — Day’s second five-star commitment following Paris Johnson Jr. — will join the already-committed four-star WRs Gee Scott Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba in OSU’s 2020 class.
The Pennsylvanian’s pledge moves the Buckeyes to No. 9 in 247’s national recruiting rankings, and past Penn State for the top spot in the Big Ten, despite the fact that they are the only school in the Top 10 with less than 10 current commitments.
Land-Grant Holy Land will have much more on this major commitment throughout the day and weekend. Welcome to the fam, Julian!
