The Ohio State Buckeyes had a slew of top recruits visiting over the weekend of June 21-23. One of those recruits was four-star safety Lathan Ransom. The visit must’ve been a great one, as Ransom announced his commitment to Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

Ransom used his final official visit on OSU. Leading up to his Columbus trek, the 6-foot-0.5 defensive back from Tucson, Ariz., made officials to Texas, Notre Dame, LSU and Oklahoma. Ohio State was the finale of third straight weekends on the road, as he saw the Fighting Irish on June 8 and the Longhorns on June 14. All five of these schools were in his top-5, and the Buckeyes emerged as the winners.
Nearly 30 schools made offers to Ransom, who is considered by the 247Sports Composite Rankings as the 76th best overall recruit in the class, fourth best safety, and fifth best prospect in Arizona.
Even with Alex Grinch moving from Ohio State to Oklahoma, new co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley made up the ground and paced the Buckeyes to the lead for Ransom.
With still one more year of high school football to be played, the Salpointe Catholic star has earned spots in The Opening Finals and U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Back in May, at one of The Opening Regional camps, Ransom was clocked running a 4.67 40-yard dash, and 33.20-inch vertical. When 2020 arrives, Hafley and the staff will have a top talent arriving in Columbus. And with some top-tier coaching, Ransom has potential to be the next great Ohio State DB.
