4-star athlete Cameron Martinez commits to Ohio State, Michigan’s 2018 player of the year

The Buckeyes snag a Michigan native.

A huge recruiting weekend brought tons of talent to Columbus for visits. The Ohio State Buckeyes benefited heavily, as they picked up a commitment from 2020 four-star athlete Cameron Martinez.

Martinez visited with the Bucks, using one of his officials. Ryan Day’s program wasn’t the only Big Ten school in the running for the 6-footer from Muskegon, Mich. On June 14, Minnesota hosted Martinez for an official visit; and in May, unofficial visits to Northwestern and Penn State were made.

However, when the dust finally settled, OSU was the school Martinez chose—outlasting over 25 others. Leading up to his commitment, the 247sports crystal balls were leaning heavily to Ohio State’s side.

With Matt Barnes and Jeff Hafley recruiting Martinez, he may wind up on special teams or defense at the next level. Regardless of where he goes, the Buckeyes picked up one of the better athletes (and Michigan recruits) in the class. The 247sports composite has Martinez as a three-star, the 384th best overall prospect, 22nd best athlete and eighth best recruit in the Wolverine State. However, 247sports’ own recruiting grades point to him being a four-star, 16th best athlete in 2020 and the seventh best prospect in the state.
