We’ve seen many BOOMs this summer for gridiron prospects. But on the hardwood, the Ohio State Buckeyes are also picking up the BOOMs, as four-star combo guard Meechie Johnson committed to the program on Tuesday evening.
The announcement came on Twitter.
Blessed day for me and my family! I would like to take the time to thank ALL of the coaches who ever texted, called and offered my son. We’re truly blessed and grateful. With that being said, Meechie committed to The Ohio State University. Go BUCKS, we are staying home! pic.twitter.com/UpBaYL3hx3

Considered by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 71 overall prospect in the 2021 class, the Garfield Heights (OH) standout was garnering interest from Big Ten schools. His 247Sports profile notes Wisconsin’s Dean Oliver leading the Badgers recruitment for the Ohio native. Additionally, one Crystal Ball Prediction had Michigan State is the potential landing spot for Johnson. But before the big offers could arrive, the Buckeyes were able to sway him. It’s a big in-state grab for head coach Chris Holtmann, as Johnson also carries the No. 5 slot in the Composite for combo guards and the No. 3 listing for overall prospects in the Buckeye State.
In the 2021 class, Johnson joins four-star power forward Kalen Etzler as the verbal commits.
