The head coach and defensive coordinator update the media after two full weeks of practice.

Big Ten Football Media Days

Throughout the season, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conference, but also from individual breakout sessions.

This episode comes from press conferences on Wednesday, Aug. 14th featuring both head coach Ryan Day and co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison.

First up, we hear from Day. In his comments, he confirms that he is planning on announcing a starting quarterback on Monday, and that Justin Fields has shown tremendous progress since Saturday’s scrimmage. He also said that the coaches believe that Chris Olave is on track to be a “every-down receiver.” And, he updated the battle to be the team’s back-up-running back, behind J.K. Dobbins.

Then, Greg Mattison discusses the depth for the Buckeye linebackers, and praises Pete Werner and Tuf Borland. He also raved about Chase Young as both a player, a leader, and a person. And the veteran coach talked about working with new colleagues Jeff Hafley and Larry Johnson.
