At 9:30 a.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 2, the 2019 Ohio State Buckeyes’ football season officially got underway, with the first practice of “fall” camp. Unlike last season, when the Buckeyes were dealing with suspensions and investigations, this year, media will be allowed to observe practices throughout the month, meaning that there should be a significantly higher amount of content coming out of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
One thing that new head coach Ryan Day has said is that he will be less transparent about injuries, so while we might get more access to players, coaches, and practices this year, in terms of who’s banged up, we will likely be getting less news than we did in the seven seasons under Urban Meyer.
However, there is a lot that we can learn from the glimpses at practices and press conferences and interviews with coaches and players.
The biggest questions for the Buckeyes this season will be how Day adapts the offense to Justin Fields’ unique skill set, how will they replace four starters on the offensive line, who will play middle linebacker for the Buckeyes, and how will new co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley gets the secondary back to BIA status?
Hopefully today’s first practice begins to answer those questions.
