On Monday, the Associated Press slotted the Ohio State Buckeyes into the fifth spot on their 2019 preseason college football poll. Well, on Tuesday, they heaped some more praise OSU’s way, as they selected junior defensive end Chase Young and senior safety Jordan Fuller to their preseason All-America team. Young was named to the first team, while Fuller is on the second.
The SEC had eight players selected to the first team, while the Big Ten had seven.
The first team is led by Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, with his teammate Travis Etienne and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor as the running backs. Taylor was joined by fellow Badger center Tyler Biadasz. Purdue’s Rondale Moore (All-purpose player) and Michigan guard Ben Bredeson round out the B1G players on the first-team offense.
On the other end from Young is Iowa’s A.J. Epenesa, with Michigan State’s Joe Bachie claiming one of the three first-team linebacker slots.
On the second team, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa earned the nod as the QB, with no B1G players on the offense. On the second-team defense, we have Michigan State end Kenneth Willekes and Northwestern linebacker Paddy Fisher joining Fuller.
Cincinnati punter James Smith also earned second-team honors.
