Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is already flashing the ability that earned him the confidence of Urban Meyer. Historically, Buckeye coaches are some of the game’s best. And Day’s future looks incandescently bright.
But not all OSU coaches were destined for the hall of fame. Take the case of David Farragut Edwards. Edwards won a national championship playing halfback at Princeton. He was a brilliant lawyer. He was also the worst coach in Ohio State football history.
The Buckeyes hit rock bottom under coach Edwards in the early days of the program. It started when Ohio State missed an opportunity to hire a coaching legend eager to join the program. It ended as Edwards’ losing ways pushed the athletic department to the brink of collapse.
