Play Like a Girl podcast: A tribute to Kobe Bryant, his legacy was greater than basketball

On LGHL’s podcast Play Like a Girl, we talk all things Ohio State football, and talk to and about women in and around Ohio State athletics and beyond.

On Sunday morning, the world quite literally stopped with the news of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven others being killed in a helicopter crash on their way to Gigi’s travel basketball game.

Tia and Meredith dedicate this week’s episode to Kobe Bryant. They talk about what they were doing when the news broke, Bryant’s powerful legacy, what it meant to them, and why his death impacted so many people— both in and outside of the sports world. They also discuss what he and Gigi meant to the WNBA and how it’s just not fair that their lives were taken before Gigi could get there.

Additionally, they unpack the horribly irresponsible coverage of that day by both ABC and TMZ and why it’s so important for journalists to follow the rules of ethics during cases like this.

It’s a heavy but necessary episode, and we hope that the loved ones of those whose lives were taken too soon find peace.
