Monday kicked off an incredibly busy week for Ohio State’s football program. Not only is the team hard at work preparing for the Big Ten Championship game versus Northwestern this weekend, but the Early Signing Period for the 2021 college football recruiting class is Dec. 16-19.

Ohio State’s 2021 class is mostly intact at 21 verbal commitments, and the majority are expected to sign this week. The group currently sits at No. 2 in the country in the 247Sports Team Rankings and will likely remain in this spot. Should it fall, it will remain in the top five classes barring any surprises.

With all of the focus on this year’s recruiting class, Ohio State still found a way to make headlines in the 2022 class, mainly thanks to the recruiting legend that is Brian Hartline.

Four-star wide receiver Kyion Grayes (Chandler, AZ/Chandler) announced his decommitment from Arizona on Monday after being committed to the hometown school since August of this year. Grayes is one of many Wildcat pledges to decommit from the University following the dismissal of head coach Kevin Sumlin.

The writing had seemed to be on the wall for a while, as multiple lead experts at 247Sports had begun submitting new Crystal Ball predictions for a flip to Ohio State. However, the firing of Sumlin appears to have been the final straw, and with Monday’s announcement it appears phase one of flipping him to Ohio State has been completed. Current Buckeyes 2022 three-star tight end commit Bennett Christian all but confirmed this shortly after Grayes’ decision was made public.

Ohio State’s recruiting efforts at the position have skyrocketed since the arrival of WR coach and former Buckeye WR Brian Hartline. This past weekend, Ohio State earned the commitment of No. 1 WR Emeka Egbuka in large part to Hartline’s efforts. His hard work again seems to be paying off in big dividends for Ohio State.

Grayes is the No. 47 WR in the 2022 class and is the No. 313 overall prospect in the country.
