Another week, another Ohio State football game canceled due to COVID-19. Luckily, we had guys like Chase Young, Nick Vannett and Jerome Baker show up and show out on Sunday to give Buckeye fans something to cheer for. Here’s how the NFL Bucks did in Week 14.

The Rookies

The Washington Football Team’s defensive line is one of the best in the NFL, and you’d be remiss to not attribute Chase Young for most of their success.

In the Football Team’s 23-15 win over the 49ers, Young totaled eight tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two pass deflections and one touchdown. This performance all but solidified his title as Defensive Rookie of the Year, potentially becoming the fourth Buckeye in the last five years to do so.

(Joey Bosa—2016, Marshon Lattimore— 2017, Nick Bosa— 2019).

On the other side of the ball, Terry McLaurin passed 1,000 receiving yards on the season. For the year, he has 73 receptions for 1,001 yards and three touchdowns.

Other miscellaneous news and notes for Buckeye rookies

  • Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins: 13 carries, 53 yards, 1 TD
  • Lions OL Jonah Jackson: Started at left guard

The Veterans

Dwayne Haskins found himself back on the field for The Washington Football Team after QB Alex Smith suffered a leg injury (described as calf tightness) before the second half. Haskins completed 7 of 12 pass attempts for 51 yards in their victory over the 49ers.

Former Ohio State tight end Nick Vannett scored his first touchdown since 2018 for the Broncos, helping them defeat the Carolina Panthers 32-27.

Jerome Baker has made it on this highlight page quite a few times this year. The Dolphins linebacker has recorded double-digit tackles in two games this season, almost making it three in Miami’s 33-27 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

Baker recorded eight tackles, two tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks— one of which was for an insane 30-yard loss.

Buckeye fan-favorite, wide receiver Devin Smith has been added to the Patriots’ practice squad after dealing with a number of injuries since 2015 when he was drafted by the Jets.

Oh, and a couple guys made it back to the Buckeye state...
