It may have been a shortened week with the holiday this past Monday, but that doesn’t mean Ohio State has taken any days off on the recruiting trail. Despite the college football dead period, the Buckeyes have remained in constant contact with all of their top targets in the 2021 class and beyond, and have made some headway in terms of making plans to get their guys on campus.
Ryan Day and the gang have been busy this week, and so we here at Land-Grant Holy Land are ready to get you up to speed on some of the recent headlines surrounding the recruiting biz.
Four-star RB plans visit, sets decision timeline
We’ve discussed ad nauseam the importance of Ohio State pulling in a top-tier running back in the 2021 class. After a couple straight underwhelming hauls at the position in recent years, the Buckeyes RB unit is a bit thinner than they would like. As a result, the team would certainly like to add the services of one Evan Pryor to the roster.
A four-star back out of North Carolina, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound ball carrier is the No. 5 RB in the country in 2021, and the No. 87 player overall in the nation. With offers from 37 different schools, Pryor just this past week cut his list down to six, as Ohio State was joined by Georgia, North Carolina, Penn State, Oklahoma and USC.
Pryor had previously made an unofficial visit to Ohio State this past November, one of many recruits in town for the Buckeyes’ matchup against Penn State. After making trips to Georgia and UNC in January, the RB plans to return to Columbus sometime in March, while also giving the hometown Tar Heels another look next month as well.
The Ohio State visit could very well be a huge factor in Pryor’s recruitment, as he told Lettermen Row that he plans to make his commitment decision before April. Ryan Day, Tony Alford and the rest of the gang will likely roll out the red carpet for the four-star prospect, and as one of the final stops on the trail for Pryor, need to make one final great impression to make sure they get him in Scarlet and Gray in 2021.
Quick Hits
- Four-star offensive guard Jager Burton also plans to make his return to Columbus in the near future. The No. 6 OG and No. 1 player out of the state of Kentucky will be in town for the Rivals Camp Series on April 25, and plans to stop in for an Ohio State spring practice during that time. Burton, who appears high on the Buckeyes’ recruiting board, also has an official visit slated for June 12.
- One of Buckeyes’ top targets at tight end, Hudson Wolfe, will likely make at least a pair of visits to Columbus as well, per Eleven Warriors. Wolfe is looking to visit Ohio State during his spring break towards the end of March, and will make official visits to his top schools after April 1. A four-star prospect, Wolfe is the No. 9 TE in the country, and the No. 6 recruit out of his home state of Tennessee.
- In basketball recruiting news, five-star small forward Kendall Brown will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, he announced via Twitter. Hailing out of Kansas, the nation’s No. 6 SF and No. 20 recruit overall in the 2021 class holds offers from the hometown Jayhawks, as well as Marquette, Maryland, Minnesota and others including of course OSU.
