Four-star Florida linebacker secures an offer from Ohio State

Just one day after the Buckeyes had their way with Big Ten Conference mate Maryland inside of Ohio Stadium, head coach Ryan Day decided to keep up the activity on the recruiting trail by sending out a new offer on the gridiron. Coincidentally, Chris Holtmann on the basketball side of things followed up with an offer of his own on Sunday night.

Four-star LB grabs Buckeye offer

Coming into the day, the Buckeyes were already in on seven other linebacker prospects in the 2023 recruiting class. But on Sunday, that changed when four-star linebacker Jayvant Brown of Deerfield Beach (FL) became the latest recipient of an offer from Ohio State after making a stop to Columbus to take in this weekend’s contest against the Terrapins.

Brown, who stands at 6-foot, 220 pounds, had already locked in offers from programs like Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Iowa State, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Penn State, and more prior to being informed of his offer from the Buckeyes.

The Sunshine State talent is definitely highly coveted, and 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins gave him rave reviews as a player. Ivins would go as far as projecting Brown as a Power-5 starter at the next level, and compared his game to former UCLA star and current Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack.

“Compactly built with room to add some more mass. Two-way player on varsity as a freshman for a team that qualified for the 4A state playoffs. Got most of his work in at running back, but fluid lower body and ability to move laterally has many excited about his potential as a linebacker. Far from a polished product on defense, but has flashed the ability to quickly and confidently fills gaps. Best attribute however might be ability to cover as he has shown in camp settings that he can flip his hips and run. Went 11.60 in the 100-meter dash as an eight grader. Physical at the point of attack, but needs to clean up the tackling technique a bit. Has to also get better at reading and reacting. Brown is currently slotted as the No. 102 player overall in the 2023 recruiting class. The latest recipient of an Ohio State offer on the gridiron is also penciled in as the eighth-highest graded linebacker and the 22nd-best player from the always talented state of Florida.

OSU offers Asemota

Just hours after Day graced the aforementioned Brown with an offer from the Buckeyes, Ohio State basketball head coach Chris Holtmann followed up with an offer of his own to 2024 small forward Jason Asemota of Hillcrest Prep (AZ), according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com.

While not having any rankings attached to his name thus far, Asemota already holds an respectable group of offers to his name. The 6-foot-7, 190-pounder is now up to double digit offers on the trail overall, with universities like Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Oklahoma, TCU, and more being involved for the Phoenix native.

• Five-star cornerback A.J. Harris of Glenwood School (AL), the No. 3 cornerback in the 2023 class, made a visit this weekend to see the Buckeyes dismantle Maryland by a final score of 66-17. According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, Harris and his family were able to “enjoy” their visit to Columbus. At the moment, it is Georgia and Clemson as the lone programs on the receiving end of a Crystal Ball pick for the Alabama native. Nonetheless, getting the No. 13 overall recruit on campus is a major win for Ohio State, and could be a factor if the Buckeyes want to remain in the thick of things for Harris.
