Monday’s are always one of the busiest days of the work week, and that is no different for the Ohio State football program. You may have missed Ohio State making the recruiting headlines to begin the week but don’t worry, Land-Grant Holy Land has you covered.
Ohio State sends early offer to 2023 CB
The Buckeyes have been dominating the college football recruiting landscape since the arrival of Ryan Day. Ohio State finished with the No. 2 recruiting class in 2021 and currently boasts the top overall class in the 2022 cycle.
With this year’s cycle all but wrapped up, Ohio State has gotten off to a head start in 2022. The class already contains 10 verbal commitments from some of the best prospects in the country (more on that later).
This sort of head start is cyclical as well. Because the Buckeyes are head and shoulders above the field right now in 2022, Day and co. are now getting a head start for 2023. This continued Monday evening when the program sent a scholarship offer to cornerback prospect Cormani McClain.

Like all recruits in the 2023 class, McClain has yet to receive a recruiting ranking from 247Sports. However, that has not stopped college football programs from across the country from taking notice. Florida, Penn State, Florida State, Kansas State, Tennessee, Michigan State, Alabama, Miami and now Ohio State have all seen enough already from the prolific sophomore to offer him a chance to play college ball for them. Because of this, it will come as no surprise if McClain is a blue chip prospect when 247Sports updates their ranking for 2023 in the next few months.
What might be the craziest nugget of information in McClain’s success is that he only played defense for his high school football team out of necessity. Despite this, he finished with nine interceptions on the year. McClain’s high school head coach Robert Paxia told 247Sports earlier this month that he expects the talented recruit to become a five-star prospect.
“He’s going to be a five-star,” Lake Gibson head coach Robert Paxia told 247Sports on Thursday. ”He’s got all the skills, he transitions in and out of breaks really well. All the stuff you need comes natural to him. He stated nine games for us at DB and had nine interceptions.”
McClain is currently favored to select hometown school Florida, as he has spoken more on this school than any other. However, with plenty of time remaining in his recruitment, expect Ohio State to establish a strong relationship with McClain early in the process.
