Buckeyes dish out latest offer to 2023 tight end, continue to see names added to the June visitor list

It’s been a pretty busy week for the Buckeyes coaching staff as they prep for June. Next weekend kicks off the start of several straight weeks of pivotal recruiting opportunities, and Ohio State and its coaching staff are ready for the tasks at hand. As some of the most highly sought after targets from all over the country are set to be in Columbus throughout the next month, Ryan Day and his crew are really hoping it pays off towards commitments in both the near future and down the road when decision time comes.

Ohio State offers 2023 tight end target

One of the positions on the Ohio State roster that probably doesn’t get as much love as it deserves is the tight end position. Sure, it’s been teased over and over about not being utilized in the passing game over the years, but in reality the tight end spot is more than a major part of the offense and their success overall. With what these players are asked to do from both a passing and run game standpoint, it’s beyond impressive how talented the players are. Having studs on the roster right now like Jeremy Ruckert helps show how well the Buckeyes recruit at the position and why they’ll continue to do so after he becomes a high NFL Draft pick.

In the 2022 cycle, the Buckeyes have already landed a pair of tight end commitments thanks to Benji Gosnell, the 13th-best tight end nationally, and Bennett Christian, just one spot lower as the 14th-best tight end. While they look to be done for this year, the 2023 class is another story.

On Thursday, the staff was active on the trail as they dished out their latest offer to a new tight end prospect. On the receiving end, Preston Zinter took to his Twitter account to announce that the Buckeyes were the latest program to enter his recruitment.

A Lawrence, Massachusetts native, Zinter is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound tight end with double-digit offers and seems to be on the brink of seeing his stock really start to take off. Big time schools such as Georgia, LSU, USC, Michigan, and more have already thrown their hat into the ring for his services, but with the Buckeyes also now aboard, you’d have to believe it’s only a matter of time before the other top programs start knocking at his door with an offer in hand. In recruiting, the domino effect is real.

Though he’s currently without a ranking on his 247Sports profile, Zinter’s offer list should tell you all you need to know about his abilities and level of talent. It’s certainly early, but Zinter’s lone Crystal Ball prediction is in favor of Michigan. The good thing for the Buckeyes is that they typically win head-to-head against their bitter rival more times than not both on and off the field.

Long way to go in this one for sure, but after seeing an Ohio State offer on Thursday, Zinter will be a name worth watching moving forward.

Buckeyes to host big time defensive linemen

Over the last several weeks it’s been truly impressive how many elite players have announced their plans to visit Ohio State during the month of June. Almost daily the guest list grows, and while the staff will be without any downtime for what seems like the entire month, it’s worth it thanks to the potential pay off. Whether it’s in the current class or the future cycles, the Buckeyes look to be in great position on the recruiting side of things, and that’s thanks in large part to how well they develop relationships with prospective players.

On Thursday, a big time defensive linemen, Khurtiss Perry, made it known via his Twitter when he would be in town to see the Buckeyes. Ranked as the nation’s 44th-best player and the No. 8 defensive line target, Perry more than lives up to his high four-star status. At 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, the Alabama native has over 30 offers to his name from the best schools in the country and has a busy month of June ahead of him — starting off from day one of the month as to not waste any time at all.

The first two days of June, Perry will take trips locally to both Alabama and Auburn, but then has plans for a multiple-day stay with Ohio State on June 4-6. Following his trip to Columbus, Perry will then see UCF, LSU, and Texas on consecutive weekends. Ohio State will be happy to have Perry on campus for his extended stay, but pulling this one out of SEC country and Alabama specifically will be no easy task.

With the lone crystal ball prediction favoring the Crimson Tide, it just goes to show Alabama’s in-state players tend to stay at home. The Buckeyes will certainly still give it their best shot, and that starts with a successful visit in a little over a week.
