Over the weekend the Buckeyes played host to a long list of highly sought after prospects from across the country. Finally having a chance to see Columbus with his own eyes, one of the many recruits who were on campus was four-star rated class of 2023 tight end Ty Lockwood.

“The trip went great and I had an absolute blast.” Lockwood, who came made the quick run to Columbus from Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, stated to Land-Grant Holy Land.

“We took a big tour around the campus and the facilities, also got to go into the Horseshoe. Columbus was amazing, I would definitely give it a 9-10. The coaches did an amazing job making me feel at home.”

Having time to mingle with the staff, Lockwood felt some pretty good vibes from the Buckeyes coaching staff during their interactions.

“They said they really like my skill set and in my opinion I play a lot like Jeremy Ruckert, so I think that’s what they see in me. They said they would love to have me come again this summer.”

With two more seasons on the high school level the Independence High (TN) junior already holds over 20 scholarship offers. Just starting to visit programs on his list he’s already in the beginning stages of thinking what programs are sticking out and when he’d like to finally shut down his recruitment process and finally dish out his verbal pledge.

“For right now I’m definitely interested in South Carolina, Clemson, and Ohio State. I still have to go see others but those will be hard to beat. I’m looking for what program is going to not just make me a better player but an even better man than I came in as. Also how well they are going to develop and prepare me for the next level. I would like to shut it down after junior years season for sure.”

Not just a blocker, but also a big time pass catching target at 6-foot-5 and 225-pounds, Lockwood, the fifth tight end, and 79th overall prospect in the class of 2023, per the 247Sports Composite, backed up all his off the field accolades on it. Hauling in 43 receptions for the Eagles as a sophomore, Ty finished his sophomore campaign with over 600 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.

Ryan Day, Kevin Wilson, and the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff have done a great job adding depth to the tight end room over the last few recruiting classes. Looking to keep the wheels turning, could Ty Lockwood be the next one they to Columbus? Only time will tell.
