The No. 18 overall player in this year’s recruiting cycle places the Buckeyes in his top group.

After the Buckeyes received good news on where they stand with five-star defensive end Shemar Stewart of Monsignor Pace (FL) on Thursday, Land-Grant Holy Land takes a look the latest highly-touted prospect that holds Ohio State in high regard.

Abor down to five

Good news came about for the Buckeyes on Friday afternoon when five-star edge Omari Abor of Duncanville (TX) released his top five schools that are still in play for his coveted pledge.

Ohio State, as seen above, was included in the group and will look to push past a quartet of elite programs that include Alabama, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M for the No. 18 player in the country. The Buckeyes initially jumped into the mix for Abor back in November of last year when they offered him and they also were able to get an official visit out of the elite defender.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder was at one-time thought to be a realistic option for the Buckeyes, but momentum started to fade away. Nonetheless, Ohio State is still an option for the No. 6 player in Texas going forward. If they can find a way to push past their competition, they could add Abor to a class that already features four-star cornerback Terrance Brooks and four-star wide receiver Caleb Burton — two other prospects who hail from the state of Texas.

While the Buckeyes admittedly have some work to do in the battle for Abor, I revealed on Sunday why you shouldn’t count out Larry Johnson when it comes to top 50 prospects on the defensive line.

Quick Hits

  • Ohio State 2023 four-star wide receiver target Carnell Tate of IMG Academy (FL) is set to announce his commitment on October 8th. On Sunday, he may have dropped a hint on which program may be in the driver’s seat for his pledge. After scoring a touchdown in the Ascenders 58-0 victory over Bishop Sycamore, Tate went on to throw up the “O-H” gesture in celebration. The game was played in Canton, Ohio at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Tate and his IMG Academy teammates have another upcoming contest in the Buckeye state this week against Cincinnati La Salle on Friday.
  • According to 247Sports’ Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, 2024 four-star quarterback Jadyn Davis of Catawba Ridge (SC) will be in attendance for the Buckeyes home opener against Oregon on September 11th. Davis is one of six prospects in his class that have an early offer from the Scarlet and Gray. The 6-foot-0, 185-pounder looks to be the top quarterback target for Ryan Day and Ohio State in 2024.
