Ohio State four-star wide receiver target out of Florida delays decision date

Despite the upsetting outcome on Saturday as the Buckeyes came up short in their comeback efforts against the Ducks by a final of 35-28, Land-Grant Holy Land takes a look at the latest recruiting news that came about this weekend.

Tate delays decision

After originally being set for an Oct. 8 commitment date that could have benefitted the Buckeyes, 2023 four-star wide receiver Carnell Tate of IMG Academy (FL) has had a change of plans in his recruitment. According to Allen Trieu of 247Sports, a new date has not been set as of now, but Tate does want to make visits to other schools before ultimately making a pledge.

While it is to be determined on which schools take looks to visit in the future, he was expected to make a decision next month out of the programs that were mentioned in his top schools that he revealed in late June. Among the schools that were in the running for the Ascender were Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, and Texas.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder and major target for wide receiver coach Brian Hartline currently sees a 50-50 split on his 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions with the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish sharing the forecasts. Tate, a Chicago native, is penciled in as the 58th highest graded player in next year’s cycle and a top ten pass-catcher in the country.

Muhammad, Robinson enjoy visit

Ohio State played host to many targets in the 2023 recruiting class on Saturday, and one of them came in the form of four-star cornerback Malik Muhammad of South Oak Cliff (TX). Muhammad took to Twitter on Sunday night that he had a “good time” in Columbus on his visit and the Buckeyes look to have made a positive impression with the No. 7 overall cornerback who they offered back in mid-March.

Another blue-chip prospect that came away impressed with their stop at Ohio State for the contest with Oregon would be another high school junior in 2023 four-star linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson of Brashear (PA). The Pittsburgh standout took it a step further than the aforementioned Muhammad by saying he had a “great visit” to Ohio Stadium on Saturday, which was his third visit to campus in four months.

The two out-of-state prospects look to be well on their way to becoming two priority targets for defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs and the Buckeyes 2023 recruiting class that as of now features only four-star tight end Ty Lockwood of Independence (TN). Muhammad and Robinson are both slotted inside the Top 125 of the 247Sports Composite rankings, and are both top 10 players at their respective positions.
