Ohio State football, basketball recruiting trending upwards

Ohio State’s football season seems to add new layers of drama with every game that passes. However, through the trials and tribulations, the Buckeyes are 3-1 and the team’s end goal of a national title is still alive, albeit much more difficult. However, one area in which the team continues to dominate with much fewer ups and downs is on the recruiting front.

But the football team is not alone, as Ohio State is also hitting the recruiting trail hard on the hardwood. Chris Holtmann and the men’s basketball Buckeyes have quietly been one of the more active teams recruiting these last couple months. Ohio State working on potential flip

Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff have been busy recently. With the main focus being on the current season’s success, the staff is also playing host to recruits. Being able to get guys on campus after more than a year of dead periods should be a big boost for the program.

This recruiting tool may be Ohio State’s best, as very few college football programs can compete with the atmosphere ‘The Shoe’ presents on a weekly basis. For proof, Ohio State may be in the middle of flipping an Ohio 2022 offensive tackle after getting him to the game this past weekend.

Three-star OT Avery Henry may already be comfortable with Ohio State’s campus, growing up in Saint Clairsville, Ohio. But after making his first unofficial visit to the Buckeyes’ campus this past weekend, he may be wanting to see more of it in his future.

Following the weekend visit, Henry, who was previously committed to Iowa State, announced he was de-committing and re-opening his recruitment. The timing should spell only good news for Ohio State, especially with the hashtag of “Family” at the end of the tweet.

While Ohio State could very well be the new leaders in his recruitment, they are not alone in targeting Henry, as he also took a summer unofficial visit to West Virginia.

Henry is the No. 143 OT in the 2022 recruiting class, and is the No. 43 recruit from Ohio.

2022 SF to announce Tuesday

Over on the hardwood, Ohio State is hoping to secure a commitment later today from one of its top remaining targets in the 2022 recruiting class. The Buckeyes recently held the top spot in the 247Sports team rankings, but dropped to No. 5 in the past weeks as top recruits have committed elsewhere. However, the Buckeyes are hoping to take one more shot up the rankings later today when four-star small forward Brice Sensabaugh announces where he will play collegiate basketball.

Sensabaugh has a final four of Florida, Alabama, Georgia Tech and Ohio State, but it is the Buckeyes who are expected to be the school of choice. Ohio State holds the sole prediction in the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, and has a moderately-high confidence score of seven.

While there are no guarantees, Sensabaugh looks to be the next piece in Ohio State’s lucrative 2022 recruiting class. If he chooses the Buckeyes, he will be joining the likes of Bruce Thornton, Felix Okpara, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Bowen Hardman. He would also give the Buckeyes four top 100 recruits in the 247Sports Composite.

• Ohio State missed the cut for 2023 five-star cornerback Tony Mitchell on Monday, as he narrowed his recruitment down to Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Alabama, Clemson and Oregon. He had previously listed Ohio State in his top 10 schools.

• Ohio State also missed the cut on the hardwood as another one of their other top remaining targets in 2022 left them off of his list of remaining schools. Five-star small forward Dillon Mitchell listed a final three of Florida State, Texas and Tennessee. The Volunteers are the presumed favorite, but Ohio State was expected to make his list of final schools. Maybe things changed with the expected commitment of Sensabaugh.
