Ohio State has another busy week ahead of itself. After leaving Minnesota with their first win of the season, the Buckeyes will now prepare to play host to Oregon for what should be their biggest game of the season until the in-conference schedule begins. With focus being centered around a successful home opener, recruiting never takes a back seat for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes will also being playing host to a plethora of elite high school talent this weekend, and will be able to show off the game-day atmosphere in person for the first time in more than a year. We here at Land-Grant Holy Land will be able to keep you up to date throughout the week as more highly-touted recruits add their name to the visitor list this weekend.

With all of this going on, the Ohio State coaching staff still found time to make the recruiting headlines this week. In case your Labor Day Monday was busy spending time with family and friends, don’t worry as we have you covered.

Ohio State offers four-star athlete

Outside of quarterback CJ Stroud and wide receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, Ohio State’s most successful offensive weapons were in the backfield with both redshirt freshman Miyan Williams and true freshman TreVeyon Henderson scoring touchdowns. Henderson and Williams both project to play significant roles in Ohio State’s offense this year and in the years to come. However, they will need to reload the talent if there is to be no letdown when the two eventually leave for greener pastures in the NFL.

The Buckeyes are hoping they found this in 2023 four-star Florida athlete Cedric Baxter Jr. who they offered Monday.

Currently listed as an athlete by 247Sports, Baxter projects best as a running back at the next level and this is how Ohio State is recruiting him. While he takes snaps at RB for Edgewater, he also lines up at linebacker and as a defensive back. However, it is what he has displayed on offense that has Ohio State’s attention.

Baxter is a rising talent in the 2023 recruiting class and has seen his recruitment gain momentum since the summer. Baxter has earned a handful of offers recently, including from Ohio State, and visited with Florida State over the weekend. The hometown school has really increased their efforts in recruiting Baxter, so Ohio State will have their work cut out for them if they are to pry him away.

However, if Baxter decides to stay home, the Buckeyes have other targets at the position as well including, five-stars Richard Young and Rueben Owens and four-star Justice Haynes. All three hail from the south, so if Ohio State is going to get a commitment from any of these three or Baxter, they will need to convince someone to make a new home in Columbus. With the Buckeyes now being able to play host to recruits, Ryan Day will have more firepower in his arsenal to do so.

Baxter is the No. 150 overall recruit in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is also the No. 16 athlete and the No. 34 recruit from Florida.
