Ohio State has had a turbulent time between the loss at Michigan and the upcoming Cotton Bowl matchup with the Missouri Tigers. There have been transfer portal decisions, a lack of NFL Draft decisions announced, commitment flips on the recruiting trail, and more. It’s been one of the weirdest bowl seasons to date from a Buckeye perspective.
So, we start this week’s show (and apologies for taking last week off, as Michael unexpectedly got hit with a non-COVID-related illness) with a look at where some of Ohio State’s transfer portal guys ended up going. We also looked at the incredible accomplishments that Marvin Harrison Jr. has added to his trophy case this fall.
Then we did something we don’t normally do, which is to talk about recruiting and why Ohio State has had some issues in this important cycle. There could be any one of a number of reasons or multiple things combining, but things seem to be going wrong with the incoming class at just the wrong time. We discuss one position group in particular and whether it’s time for Ryan Day to have some difficult conversations (it is) and to make some hard decisions (he should).
Finally, we turn our attention toward the matchup with Missouri. The Tigers will almost certainly be the more excited team to be participating in this upcoming Cotton Bowl. That can sometimes be a great equalizer for the less talented team, especially when the favorite will have a first-time starting quarterback, possibly won’t have any of its top three receivers, and is already down two running backs with another potentially opting out later.
In other words, we have no idea what to expect from this Cotton Bowl and doesn’t that make this game a little more... exciting? We think so! In fact, all of the unknowns make this for a positively intriguing matchup against an SEC opponent who will turn up, play hard, and be physical.
We select the players we pick to click in the game and give our score predictions. For the second straight time, we’re split on the outcome.
We’ll be here with you every week from now until the end of the 2023 Ohio State football season (except the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and then monthly). We’d love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email.
